This flyer is an exploration of graphic designs relationship to equipment, highlighting hidden fascinations that we fail to realize. I have explored combining traditional ways we use a pen when writing with the technological graphic of the directions keypad of our computer. The process of writing letters is explored here. Often over-looked, a hidden code system of the directions we write in is displayed. It shows the directions where the line is coming from and the spot where it stops. “Techne reveals what ever does not bring itself forth and does not yet lie here before us” is a quote by Martin Heiddiger that inspired this project and re-enforces the message of the flyers.
In order to allow others interacting with the work to realize these hidden fascinations with me, I created a writing exercise on the flyer, where I ask people to write the same quote, like they would normally write, except they’d write it within the designated rectangles, in all caps. As they write, they would realize the purpose of the directions placed within the rectangles. Despite these writing directions being subjective, they are the most commonly used according to my primary research. Some people may write the letter A for example starting from the top rather than the bottom.
