We were each given the task of selecting an ordinary object to develop an interesting project from. I picked a plug and used design to investigate its scientific and physical properties. I was so captivated by a plug’s properties that I challenged myself to make a plug and its attributes “fun” and “interesting” for the common person to learn about. During my investigation, I discovered that the physical characteristics of a plug are not fully considered and appreciated because the emphasis is on its applications and safety for others to use.
Here, I explored the scientific and object attributes of plugs A, K, G, E, and I to make something visually interesting. The plug’s shape has been used to form patterns, which are the numeric values of each plug’s electric rates e.g. plug A’s values are 50Hz (hertz), 15A (amps) and 120V (voltage). Doing this with each plug, the pattern on each poster came out to be different each time, allowing the audience to enjoy a nice visual capturing the complexity of electricity whilst learning about each plug.
